In 1893 this parade had about 30,000 spectators. A movie was created about this competition as well. The pageants are now about 25,000 per year and attract about 3 million children per year. Nowadays, the fame of boy pageants is growing enormously as well. About 10% of participants in beauty contests are young boys all dressed in tuxedoes.A beauty contest is a competition in which the entrants, usually women, are judged as to physical beauty and sometimes talent, with the winners awarded prizes or titles. There are several disputes over the affects of beauty contests, but in reality beauty contests give negative images to girls of all ages.Beauty contests are probably one of the least harmful events for women, because there are many more harmful industries out there. Beauty contests, in and of themselves, are pretty harmless. What are more harmful are modern industries, including, but not limited to, magazines, advertising, presentation of women in sitcoms and movies, cosmetics, cosmetic surgery, and the fashion industry.
Beauty contests endorse an ideal of female beauty to which only a very few women can realistically aspire, but it adds to the pressure on all women to conform to it. Woman in beauty contests are judged largely on their physical appearances, rather than on any other qualities they might possess.In the world of beauty pageants, there is only one kind of beauty. This one kind of beauty is “Barbie”: tall, long-legged, tiny waist, straight white teeth, long thick hair. These beauty pageants can be misleading and harmful, not only to women without this body type, but to society as a whole.
Beauty pageants tend to cause these sorts of issues among women especially when children compete at these competitions. These beauty pageants may be too much for children to handle and cause them to question their true beauty. These pageants are extremely competitive and cause jealously and hatred between the opponents.
